First Birthday Memories

  • Print their hand and footprints. Use face paints (or other non toxic and easy to wash off paint) to paint onto your tot’s hand or foot then get them to stamp it onto a piece of plain card, which you can then date and frame. (You can buy kits with all the materials you need if you prefer.) Make some extra ones if your little artist is in the mood, as they can be cut out and stuck onto plain card to make unique party.
  • Create a collage or photo book of pictures from their first party or those you’ve taken in their first year. You could include pictures of significant moments such as their first outing, first smile, first spoon of food, first Christmas and so on.
  • Make a ‘My First’ keepsake box filled with small treasures from their first year. Collect up little mementoes such as their hospital band, their first shoes and hat, a lock of hair, a new baby or christening gift, and one of their first birthday party invitations or birthday cards. Start a birthday height chart with photos of them on each birthday attached so they can see how they’ve grown.
  • Film older siblings or other relatives reading a favourite baby book or poem to your tot on their birthday. Or get them to sing a nursery rhyme or two or Happy Birthday to You! while the camera’s rolling.
  • Ask relatives for a picture of them on or around their first birthday. Frame them together with a picture of your tot to showcase the family resemblance or family tree.
